The Chequamegon National Forest covers 858,000 acres in northwestern Wisconsin. More than 225 species have been sighted in the Chequamegon including migrating tundra swans, eagles, osprey, ruby-crowned kinglets, indigo buntings and rufous-sided towhees. The Great Divide National Scenic Byway runs through the heart of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in a 29-mile stretch between Glidden and Hayward where motorists can take in the scenery. The Byway’s tranquil forests are home to black bear, timber wolves and white-tail deer, while its lakes, swamps and bogs are a haven to beaver, loons and bald eagles.

Excellent for landscaping, antiquing, skiing, golfing, hunting, fishing, hiking, birding, and exploring the countryside. The Bird Survey takes place each year during the second weekend in June. Results also provide visitors with information about habitat preferences and "hot-spots" for northern Wisconsin's bird species.
