Waukesha -- A microbrewery that revived the local beer industry for several years has closed its doors.
Remington Watson Smith Brewing Co., which operated at 223 Maple Ave., went out of business recently after at least six years in operation.

Established in 1996, this micro-brewery produces three award-winning local brands and several seasonal specialty beers. Brewery open Mon-Fri 11am-5pm. Tours on request. In 1847, Jacob Moritz began brewing in Port Washington at Lakeside Brewing. It was renamed Port Washington Brewing Co. and then, after Prohibition, the Old Port Washington Brewing Co. It closed in 1947. The brewery's old offices now form part of the American Legion Hall, 419 Lake St., across from Lower Lake Park. The brewery had beer caves, since bulldozed shut, built into St. Mary's Hill behind it.
