Ahnapee State Trail

Ahnapee State Trail In Sturgeon Bay, WI

From the village of Casco in Kewaunee County, the county-operated trail winds east and north 30 miles along the beautiful Ahnapee River to downtown Sturgeon Bay. The trail is named for the Ahnapee River, which parallels the route for about five miles between Forestville and Algoma.

The trail takes you from Lake Michigan's rocky shore down through farm fields and orchards. Hike, touring bike, horseback ride, hike, ski, snowmobile, Crushed limestone with wood-planked bridges; some asphalt and concrete sections on the Sturgeon Bay city trail.

During spring, summer, and fall hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and horse-drawn carts and wagons share the trail. In winter, cross country skiers and snowmobilers whisk across its frosty surface. Many miles from the nearest city you have Ahnapee State Trail and there's great natural beauty awaiting you along it.

You can watch the Great Lakes freighters ply the Sturgeon Bay ship canal, see the fishing boats slip through the early morning mist of the Algoma breakwater, or just enjoy the woods and wildflowers on the inland roll to Casco Junction.
