Seven lakes with crystal clear waters, a sandy swimming beach, and miles of different types of trails make summer an excellent time to visit the park. A spillway and dam at the start of Hartman Creek are on the east end of Allen Lake. Hartman Lake has a 300-foot sand beach and large marked-off swimming area. The beach is adjacent to 3 acres of multi-use lawn area containing picnic tables, drinking water, and a combination changing and toilet building.
Ideal for Canoeists and kayakers. At Hartman Creek State Park you can ride on the leavings of the Green Bay Lobe of the last great continental ice sheet. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail passes through the park. The mix of pine, oak and maple forest add to the experience. The prospect of a post-ride swim in Hartman Lake (Allen Lake) doesn't hurt either.
Park visitors will have the option of renting recreational equipment and purchasing basic camping and related items at concession stands. Look for canoe, kayak and paddle-boat rentals at each location as demand warrants.
Joel is clearly visible from Hartman Creek State Park, and if you're a golfer then a brilliant close by course is Foxfire Golf Club. Hartman Creek Number Five Dam is not far at all from Hartman Creek State Park; if you come at the right time of year, Little Wolf River offers some great whitewater. Interesting and diverse habitats provide protection for a wide spectrum of watchable wildlife. Commonly seen are white-tailed deer and a host of songbirds. The observant visitor may see raccoon, opossum, sandhill crane, red-tailed hawk, or perhaps a ruffed grouse.
