The Manitowish River flows 44 miles from High Lake in Boulder Junction to the Flambeau Flowage with 3 portages, several canoe-in overnight campsites, and breathtaking scenic beauty along the way. The river is slow-flowing, perfect for canoeing and kayaking. The Manitowish River is the perfect river for quietwater canoeists who like to combine lake and river paddling.
The newly-designated Manitowish River Wilderness Area lies to the east of the river's edge and Hwy. 47. This is a great area to see waterfowl!
