The upper 20 miles are relatively shallow and wide with a brisk current and lots of islands -- an ideal float trip for novices and families. The lower 15 miles parallel the Red Cedar State Bike Trail. Fishing is good all along the river. Access is available at numerous county parks. Canoe rentals are offered at many towns along the river.
A wonderful river for families, novice canoeists, anglers and anyone interested in tranquil surroundings, the Red Cedar is paddleable its whole length. You can launch right at the end of your road. Or, if you feel a little more spirited, you’re only 2 miles from the 6 lake chain with over 3700 acres of water to run your speed boat, jet ski or fish. You have easy access to many restaurants, shopping, golf and all the other amenities you would need to have a great time. And best of all- it’s all less than 2 hours from the twin cities. You can have it all.
