Lake Wissota State Park

Created by Wisconsin-Minnesota Light and Power Company in 1918, the 6,300-acre lake attracts anglers after walleyes, muskies and bass.

The park is situated on the northeast shore of Lake Wissota, a reservoir on the Chippewa River. Pine forests, mixed hardwood timbers, prairie, and marshes are found in the park. Hikers enjoy 17.4 miles of scenic hiking trails within the park. Among the park's most scenic trails is the 1-mile self-guided Beaver Meadow Nature Trail.
The park offers secluded campsites, hiking trails, playing golf, swimming, whitewater paddling, fishing, two picnic areas, four shelters and a 285-foot swimming beach with two pavilions nearby. Camping, boating, and fishing are the most popular activities. Winter activities including cross-country ski trails, snowshoeing, ice fishing and snowmobiling. Visitors can access the Old Abe State Trail and bike or hike 17.5 miles (28.2 km) to Brunet Island State Park. Bicycling is a popular activity. The cross-country ski trails are groomed for both traditional stride and skate skiing. The park also has 6.5 miles of trails available for daytime horseback riding. There are two ball diamonds and a volleyball court.
Scenic trails edge the shoreline and wind through woodland, prairie and marsh. Going to Old Abe State Trail near Lake Wissota State Park is a perfect thing to do, and you can have a tremendous hiking adventure along the Hay Meadow Trail. Not far from Lake Wissota State Park, you'll hit upon Cindy Lake which is a wonderful lake, and on a nice day you can take a hike along the Deer Fly Trail.
Apple blossoms in the spring and harvest in the fall at the Lafayette Apple Orchards is always a scenic drive. Drive south on County Highway J to visit the Apple Orchards. Visit Yellow River, Cindy Lake while you're here at Lake Wissota State Park. Get your heart beating on the perfect whitewater of Eau Claire River and hiking along the Hay Meadow Trail is magnificent fun. Lakes are brilliant; Popple Lake is a lake that's in the vicinity of Lake Wissota State Park.
The park also does the Junior Ranger program for kids, and there is also a small playground centered between the two campsite loops. The park has a permanent fishing pier especially designed to provide easy access for anglers with disabilities.
