Canoeing at Fox River

Known as the 'Little Fox' or 'Illinois Fox,' this slow-current waterway meanders from southeastern Wisconsin into Illinois. Access is available at county and state highway crossings. Several dams must be portaged. Open Apr 15-Oct 31. Reservations suggested.

The river enters Illinois where it widens into a large area of interconnected lakes known as the Chain O'Lakes. Fox Lake is the largest city in this area. From the chain, the river flows generally southward for 115 miles (185 km), until it joins the Illinois River at Ottawa.
