Point Beach State Forest

The point juts seven miles into Lake Michigan, and the six-mile beach occasionally yields pieces of 19th century ships that sank here.

The sandy shore of Lake Michigan is a fascinating place just to walk, look and indulge in some aimless beach combing. Interpretive Center, 11 miles of hiking/skiing trails and a self guided half mile nature trail, 6 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, with dunes, a lighthouse (Twin River Point Light Station; a National Register of Historical Place), hiking, biking, skiing, nature, lighthouse, snowmobile trails and indoor group family campground. Two miles are open for snowshoeing, sunrise at Point Beach & Lake Michigan, pump house, four miles are open for cross-country skiing and mountain biking.
The Point Beach State Forest forms Two Rivers' northern boundary. On hot days, enjoy a swim or a stroll at one of the public beaches in Manitowoc County. They include Point Peach State Forest north of Two Rivers, Neshota Park in Two Rivers, Red Arrow Park in Manitowoc and Fischer Creek Park near Cleveland. Neshotah Park is a popular gathering place, provides several hundred yards of white-sand beach for swimmers, sunbathers, volleyball players and castle builders. Check conditions before swimming. Enjoy the solitude of the season, good local forest, and enjoy a round of golf at Eastwin Valley Golf Course, Neshota River; a great whitewater spot right next door to Point Beach State Forest, whitewater paddling on Devil's River, and magnificent skiing awaits you at Hidden Valley. The sandy shore of Lake Michigan is a major attraction for Point Beach State Forest visitors. There is a six-mile beautiful, yet unguarded beach. Folks come to swim, sunbathe, picnic, and look for century-old shipwreck remnants.
With more than 2,900 acres of forest and beach, Point Beach offers 127 family campsites, two indoor group cabins and an outdoor group campsite. You can cross-country ski right from your campsite to the groomed trails. Ride the popular Rawley Point (TWIN RIVER POINT) Bicycle trail.
The trail traverses through a pine, a restored 1929 cabin and hemlock forest for 6 miles and connects to the mariners trail for an additional 6 miles. On Lake Michigan, bicyclists ride the breezes between a lighthouse and a submarine. Two Rivers, Wis., gets its nickname from cooling breezes that come from three sides: the East Twin River, the West Twin River and Lake Michigan. Swimmers can cool off with a dip from Neshotah Beach, a great strip of sand, but there’s an even better one five miles north, where 113-foot Rawley Point Lighthouse towers over the dunes of Point Beach.
Kohler-Andrae State Park is a glorious place, and Manitowoc River has a delightful whitewater paddling spot nearby. It and the city of Manitowoc make for interesting day trips. Being on the beach watching the moon in Two Rivers is the home of Rogers Street Fishing Village and Great Lakes Coast Guard Museum, which was the site of an early Indian and French Canadian fishing village. Manitowoc is the site of the Maritime Museum, home of submarine USS COBIA (tours offered) and relicts from the past 100 years of Great Lakes maritime history. Five separate trails allow hikers to experience the diverse habitats lush with plant, animal and bird life.
