Over forty family-operated goat dairy farms in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota produce milk for the cooperative. In 1983 as demand for their quality goat's milk products increased, they purchased the Mt. Sterling Cheese Factory located in Crawford County Wisconsin, where their prize-winning goat cheese is produced. Mt. Sterling's Cheddar won the Gold Medal at the American Dairy Goat Products Association contest.
Mt. Sterling Cheese Coop offers this mild natural cheddar style goat's milk Wisconsin cheese made from raw, not pasteurized milk, and then aged a minimum of 60 days. The raw goat milk is not pasteurized in the cheesemaking process, only heat-treated. Enjoy four 8 oz. packages of goat milk cheddar cheese.
People who have never tried goat cheese may have a preconceived perception of the flavor, but you will be very pleasantly surprised at the superb flavor and texture of their award-winning goat milk products.
You may check in with the producers and the Board of Directors themselves on the Co-op Producers link. Online store is available for easy access to their fine products and take a peek at the Co-op News link for updates on Co-op happenings.
