Train Excursions At Mid-Continent Railway Museum

Take a memorable, seven-mile, 50-minute round-trip ride on a former branch line of the Chicago & North Western Railway through the scenic Baraboo Hills. Established in 1959; are intended to provide a turn-of-the-century atmosphere.

This has been accomplished by moving authentic structures to North Freedom for restoration, as well as constructing new buildings using old design plans. Operates old steam trains on former Chicago and Northwestern Railway track on a 50-minute trip between North Freedom and Quartzite Lake.
Passes through old mining town of LaRue. Museum displays a large collection of locomotives and rolling stock. You can also see newly painted Copper Range locomotive #29, which pulled #60 more than 50 years ago, and steam locomotives Soo #2645 and GB&W #49. Steam trains run daily from mid May-Labor Day, and weekends only from Labor Day-mid Oct, at 10:30am & 12:30, 2 & 3:30pm. Special fall color runs the first two weekends in Oct and a special snow run the third weekend in Feb. To reach depot, take Hwy 12 to Hwy 136 to Hwy PF.
