Elroy-Sparta State Bike Trail Wisconsin (WI)

The "Granddaddy" of them all treats bicyclists to a delightful 32-mile ride through wooded valleys and friendly small towns. There are three century-old railroad tunnels on the trail and numerous campgrounds along the way. Elroy offers a friendly welcome to all bikers with a special invitation to visit the Commons - a lovely downtown city park. Built in 1991, the Commons provides a trailshop and information center, restrooms with shower facilities, pay phone, parking, bike rentals, picnic area and tot lot.

This Elroy-Sparta State Trail is directly linked to two other state trails. A bridge over Interstate 90 in Sparta connects the La Crosse River State Trail to the Elroy-Sparta trail on the west end, and the "400" State Trail connects to the trail at Elroy Commons on the east end.

In Kendall, trail headquarters is located in a restored railway depot. The headquarters provides information on services and activities in the area. The depot also makes available an electric cart for people with special needs and operates a driver service for bikers. Contact: Wisconsin DNR, 608/337-4775; or Elroy-Sparta State Trail Headquarters, 608/463-7109.
