GANDY DANCER BIKE TRAIL, WISCONSIN (WI)

66 miles of hiking and snowmobile trail on a former railroad bed. The stretch from St. Croix Falls in Polk County to Danbury in Burnett County traverses Wisconsin's "Indianhead Country" in the beautiful northwestern corner of the state, linking nine picturesque Wisconsin communities.

Parts of the trail are open for touring bikes, ATVs, off-road bikes and horseback riding. Another 30-mile section in Minnesota is open for snowmobiling. One highlight of the trail is a 350-foot bridge over the St. Croix River just north of Danbury. Future plans call for the trail to continue north, all the way to Superior. The trail bed was recently surfaced with crushed limestone.

The Gandy Dancer State Trail is divided into a northern segment and a southern segment. Trail uses for the two segments are also divided. Most of the year the southern segment allows only non-motorized recreation on the trail, while the northern segment offers motorized recreation year-round. The segment offers a wilder, more remote trail experience.  Hiking, mountain biking and ATV use is permitted.  No pass is needed to use the north section of the Trail, but ATVs must display valid registration.
